What happens when a crypto swap quote expires?
What an expired crypto swap quote means, plus safe next steps for an unfunded route, a late deposit, and recovery options shown by the active route.
An expired crypto quote is a change in route conditions, not a command to send faster or start over. The safe next step depends on one basic question: did any crypto actually leave your wallet?
If you have not sent anything, request a fresh quote. If you have already sent funds, go back to the original route and let its status tell you what the route can do with the deposit that arrived.
Open the current route → Open uSwap
First, separate the quote from the transfer
A quote is a live estimate and funding instruction for a requested route. It can include the source asset and network, amount, modeled result, costs, limits, timing, and provider conditions.
A blockchain transfer is separate. Once a transfer is broadcast, its own network confirmation and finality rules apply. The quote expiring does not undo the transfer, and a transfer does not force a route to honor conditions that no longer apply.
That distinction keeps the next step clear:
| Situation | Safe next move |
|---|---|
| You did not send funds | Request and review a fresh quote. |
| You sent funds and the transaction is still confirming | Keep the original route open; do not send a second deposit. |
| The route detected a late or different deposit | Read the status and the actions available on that specific route. |
| You used a wrong asset or network | Check the original route for recovery information; some cases need review and may not be recoverable. |
If you have not sent funds, refresh the route
Do not fund an expired quote from memory. Reopen the route, confirm the desired outcome, and review the newly displayed instruction before you send.
The new quote can differ because of market movement, network conditions, provider inventory, product availability, limits, or route eligibility. It can also show a different exact amount, timing window, or source-network option. That is normal behavior for a route that is evaluated live.
If the fresh quote no longer works for your intended result, change the requested amount or destination in the app and review the new route. Do not try to reverse-engineer a new amount from the expired one.
If you already sent crypto, return to the original bridge
An on-chain transfer can take time to be detected and confirmed. Do not create another transaction merely because the quote timer has passed or the page has changed state.
Open the original transaction page and compare:
- the asset and network you sent;
- the amount the route has detected;
- the transaction or confirmation status; and
- any route-specific action presented for the deposit.
The original bridge has the context that a new quote does not: what you requested, what the route expected, and what actually arrived. It is the right place to check whether the deposit is still confirming, can be re-quoted, needs review, or has another available outcome.
Fixed and floating quotes can behave differently
Routes can identify whether an estimate is fixed or floating when that information is supplied by the route.
A fixed quote is tied to its stated amount, timing, network, and provider conditions. If the funding deposit arrives after the relevant conditions expire, the original result may no longer be available. A floating quote is designed to be recalculated as the deposit and current market conditions are evaluated.
Neither label removes the need to read the active route. A fixed quote is not an indefinite price reservation, and a floating quote is not a reason to rely on a stale estimate.
Read the actions the route actually offers
When a detected deposit no longer matches the original route, uSwap can automate common late-deposit, underpayment, overpayment, re-quote, and refund cases. The actions available on a given route depend on the asset, network, provider, destination, and current execution state.
Depending on that context, the bridge may present an option such as:
- accepting a refreshed or market-rate quote;
- holding the deposit while the route is reviewed or a path is retried; or
- requesting a refund to an eligible destination.
Those are route-specific possibilities, not a blanket promise. Wrong-network deposits, unsupported assets, already-broadcast transfers, provider-ambiguous states, and completed settlements can have limited recovery options. A refund can also depend on whether the funds remain controllable and on the route’s current conditions.
Avoid the two common mistakes
Do not send a second deposit to “unstick” the first
A second transfer can create a second route event rather than repair the first one. If the original page is still processing, wait for its current state or follow the action it presents. Only send another transfer after you have a fresh route instruction that clearly calls for it.
Do not change the asset, network, or amount on your own
An expired rate does not make a different asset or network interchangeable. A wrong-network or unsupported deposit may need manual review and may not be recoverable. If the original quote no longer works, request a new one instead of improvising a replacement transfer.
A simple expired-quote checklist
- Stop before sending anything else.
- Check whether funds have already left your wallet.
- If not, request a fresh quote and review every current instruction.
- If yes, return to the original bridge and wait for detection or confirmation status.
- Use only the re-quote, hold, or refund action actually shown for that route.
- If the route needs help, contact support with the transaction context — never share a seed phrase or private key.
Quote expiry is a reason to re-check the route, not a reason to panic. The current route page is the source of truth for a deposit that has already happened; a new live quote is the source of truth for one that has not.

Common questions
Request a fresh quote first. Do not use an expired amount, rate, or deposit instruction as if it were still active. The new quote is the source of truth for the route currently available.
